It has been five years of gratitude since my husband Larry’s heart attack and subsequent full recovery. I have a need to honor the anniversary each year by writing about it, the most dramatic piece being about the trauma itself – which you can read about here.
Both of us have learned so much about gratitude – for our family, friends, and the ins and outs of our daily life together. There is hardly a day that passes without one of us remarking to the other how lucky we have been these past five years.
Today will be so special for us and will include a visit to our local fire station. It was the men and women of Station 8 here in Mission Hills who saved Larry’s life. All of “our” original team have moved on to other stations, but we consider all the heroes of Station 8 to be folks whose courage we acknowledge on a regular basis.
So, I will shed a tear or two and share many hugs with my sweet husband and the brave firefighters who save people like Larry almost every day. It has, indeed, been five precious years of gratitude and thankfulness.
Liz it’s another happy anniversary and I couldn’t be happier for you and Larry. I think it’s so important to mark this day every year and remember the miracle that took place. All the best to both of you, continued health and happiness.
Thanks, Suzanne, we are celebrating tonight instead of Valentine’s-
I too remember that day and am grateful for the crew, we love having you both as neighbors.
I remember you running up and asking me what was wrong, Toni – xo
How fantastic Liz! I can’t believe it has been 5 years, oh how fast the time does go. Fabulous photo of Larry and I am wishing you many, many more precious years together. XOXO
Thanks, dear Wendy, I didn’t realize how wrung out I feel now, so we will go out tomorrow to celebrate. xo
Wow 5 years! Lots of love to you and lots more happy years for you both together. xxx
We are happy today, Jayne, and wishing you snow in New England.
I so love that you post about this – it’s lovely, heartwarming, and wonderful. Happy 5 years to you and Larry.
Beth, perhaps 2016 is the year we can finally meet.
You are both such special people to Myles and me, and you are both so lucky to have each other to love every day.
Thanks, Susan, we hope to see you both this year –
I am so happy for the both of you! Congratulations.
Thanks and I loved your mango post with the Seville orange sauce –
Such a great photo of Larry and it’s so wonderful to have a gratitude anniversary. Hope you are recovering well from your hand surgery.
Thanks – recovering OK but missing my dominant hand for at least 4-5 more weeks.
Sounds like a special way to honor both Larry’s life and the love you have together!
Thanks, Lisa – I love your blog’s new name – a keeper!
