When Larry and I were first dating in 1996, we used to refer to ourselves as “two lucky birds”, so grateful to have found one another. Each of us had suffered a great deal of emotional stress in previous relationships and marriages, so we were overjoyed to have found one another. Although we had worked together in the same field, child/family psychiatry and psychotherapy, it took us twenty-two years to fall in love – and fall we did!
Today marks the third anniversary of Larry’s heart attack, a day when we once again remind ourselves that we are, indeed, “two lucky birds”. Larry suffered no permanent damage to his heart, thanks to prompt intervention by skilled professionals. Both of us have lost weight and we eat a healthier diet with an emphasis on lowered sodium. Never have we taken one another for granted, even before his heart attack, but today we are reminded more than ever how precious life is and how fortunate we are to continue to share it together.
I have grown kind of superstitious about feeling a need to post on this important anniversary. (You can read my earlier anniversary posts here , here and here.) It feels very important to me to acknowledge the significance of the day and of the love we continue to share.
So, the Starbucks card and thank you note has been delivered to Fire Station 8 and a few happy tears have been shed. These two lucky birds are counting their blessings. Every day is so precious.
Gorgeous pic!!! So happy for you two “lucky birds” and wishing many more years of perfect health and happiness. You are loved!
Wendy, you are too dear – miss you so much.
I count myself lucky to know you both!
Ditto, my friend – see you when we get to the Bay Area, maybe late Spring.

Thanks, Suzanne, we don’t have nearly enough photos of the two of us – something we can remedy.
Too beautiful….

Thanks for reading, Stephanie – yes, “gratitude” posts are good for the soul, I think.
Two lovely birds…best wishes to you. xo
Lynda, missing you and planning a Bay Area visit late spring. X0 Liz
happy anniversary to both of you lucky birds. I wish you many more. also thanks for a glimmer of hope on being able to establish a meaningful deep relationship after the stress of previous difficult relationships. I need that and I’m struggling to even allow the hope it might be possible at some point. Bless you both.
Hang in there and wait for the right person, sounds so much easier than it is – but when it is right, you will know it.
What a beautiful post! I love that you celebrate this day. When so often we take things for granted, it is beautiful to be reminded to be thankful by a couple of “lucky birds”!
Thanks, Barbara, It was so good to see you at TECHmunch looking so “glowing”, Mom-to-be.
you are so smart to realize what a truly wonderful gift it is to have someone, the RIGHT someone. i fell in love with my husband in my 40s and it was worth the wait. a few years ago i almost lost him and i always celebrate the day he came out of a coma and was fine ever after. i am very grateful. thank you for sharing this lovely post.
We both know what is feels like to almost lose the person we love so much. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Wow. You look fantastic in this photo, Liz. You both do, actually. It’s lovely to read this post about being grateful and happy. Congrats.
Thanks, Dianne – we both miss you.
Two lucky in love birds! Celebrate the life you have together – it is precious 🙂
